Christine Rigby – Heart Link Secretary

Our younger daughter was born in 1983 and at her six week check a “heart murmur” was detected. She was referred to Groby Road Hospital, Leicester but whilst waiting for an appointment to come through our G.P arranged for her to be admitted. Her condition was classed as Tetralogy of Fallots and her first emergency “Blalock shunt” operation was performed the next day

A further shunt was carried out 2 years later. With the introduction of the first “scanner” her condition was re classified as “double inlet left ventricle and pulmonary atresia. She underwent a “Glenns” procedure in 1990 and a Fontan in 1994. This had to be modified by fenestration and homo graft next day. After this she needed E.C.M.O support which was successful and she has just celebrated her 30th birthday.

My husband, John, and I were already members of Heart Link but after her operations in 1994 joined the Heart Link committee.  I took over as Secretary in 1999 – which keeps me busy together with my work as a Building Society agent.
